Me

My name is Shanika (she/her) but in this safe space you may call me Nique (pronounced "neek").

From the time I was 6 years old, I felt a gravitational pull to the pregnancy and birthing process. Growing up in a traditionally Jamaican household, that meant I was destined to become an OB/Gyn. I wanted to see families through this transitionary time of their lives from beginning to "new beginning" with their newborn. But, by the time I approached my last year of high school, I realized that medical professionals are not able to provide all of the much-needed emotional support and attention each new family deserves. I worked my way through college trying to find my place in the world and something that I felt passionate about. I eventually entered the clinical trial space for the first time, specifically in Gynecology Oncology, and found myself being drawn back to reproductive health. It was during that time of my life in my early 20s, I was telling a beloved coworker my interest in birth work. She then introduced me to the doula world, and I am now a full-spectrum doula some years later.

I'm professionally trained in the best evidence-based practices to guide, nurture, and support you (or your loved one) through prenatal care, labor & delivery and the postpartum period, as well as fertility and Loss.

My full-spectrum care is customized to each individual's health concerns, needs and preferences. I will be working with you (or your loved one) to identify the right path for them and taking the journey with them one baby step at a time. As your doula, I work for you and put your best interest first by helping you educate yourself and advocate for yourself.

I graduated from Northeastern University with Bachelor's of Science in Biology and Mathematics and A Master's of Science in Regulatory Affairs with a concentration in Clinical Research. I will be using my knowledge of clinical research and clinical trials and the doula world to continue to bring the successful practices done during pregnancy, birth and postpartum to light so all can be knowledgeable.

are we a good fit?
